DOJ SUES GOOGLE

A complaint against Google, owned by Alphabet, for breaching anti-trust laws and knowingly allowing a monopoly on search engines and search ads is expected to be brought by the U.S. Department of Justice. The case would concentrate on Google's unlawful activities in developing exclusive contracts with companies such as Apple, according to officials at the DOJ, to make Google the default search engine for its line of tech products such as Safari. The government would argue that it is these kinds of exclusionary billion-dollar deals that give Google a market advantage, "controlling about 80 percent of search queries in the U.S.," that no rival can equal, harms customer choice, and inhibits innovation.
